Bob Marshall For Senate

A few months ago, I endorsed Jim Gilmore's Senate candidacy on this blog. This campaign has shown me that he is NOT the man for the job. He is a classic glad-handing establishment politician. The Republican party, particularly here in the Old Dominion, is at a crisis point in terms of not only electoral success, but in terms of its identity. We have lost our way very, very badly the past few years by pandering to a very loud, very boorish social conservative minority, while at the same time making a Faustian bargain with people who are anything but conservative for the sake of winning. The worst part is that we keep losing despite that.

It's time for a change. Bob Marshall actually took the time to call me personally a week or two ago, and spent half an hour making a powerful case for his candidacy. I part ways with him on some social issues, but he is absolutely right on on just about everything else from fiscal issues to border security and immigration. He does not ever compromise his fundamental principles. It's just not close.

Bob Marshall for Senate. I plan to support him at the convention next week. Join me.

Wait a minute. You're frustrated with the party for pandering to the social conservative minority, so you're supporting Bob Marshall??? Isn't he the epitome of the social conservative minority?? I think you've got your candidates confused.

Bob is a social conervative, no question, but he's not the type to call people names and such, he's good-humored about it. His principles never ever move, and he great on fiscal issues, immigration/border security, you name it. The perfect should not be the enemy of the very good.

"ass" kicker desperate to get Gilmore to win one race this century said...

Spank that donkey has posted about 5 stories to slam Bob Marshall in the past 5 days. He invents stuff like he's some great writer.

This shows me how desperate Gilmore's kronies are to libel the good name of a real Patriot Bob Marshall.

Gilmore in contrast, just names invented committees for himself like the FOUR "Veterans for Gilmore" who have no PAC or volume of people.

Ass Kicker is a new one, I have heard buro beater...

anyhow, Governor Gilmore is a Veteran, he has every right to form a 'Veterans' For Gilmore Group...

and your guy was doing what while Gilmore was serving in Army Intelligence in Germany?

btw why the switch NVC? Gilmore is closer to Hunter than Marshall, take Energy and our bases in Europe for just starters...

I certainly won't get on Gov. Gilmore for forming whatever identity outreach groups he likes, although I should point out I abhor identity politics across the board. But that's a subject for another post.

The switch really comes from some inconsistencies in Gilmore's position's as myself and RWL have pointed out on immigration, for instance. His campaign has been less than stellar, given the resources he's had. Reminiscent of the early McCain presidential campaign, where you could smell the establishment.

Bob is dealing with issues from a federalism perspective. Read what he has to say about eminent domain vis a vis power co-ops. As he formulates policy on some federal issues for the first time, I think you'll see him move closer to Duncan Hunter. Just watch.

As an aside, I sense this may be in danger of becoming a food fight like the race for RPV chair already is. Let's avoid that.
